The cross-linked polyethylene cable material is plasticized and melted by an extruder. At the same time, after passing through a molding mold, the plastic is coated on the conductive metal wire to form cross-linked polyethylene wire and cable.
Wire and cable coated with cross-linked polyethylene cable material have higher heat resistance and hardness than ordinary polyethylene cable material. Crosslinked polyethylene cable material coated wires and cables are mainly used in medium and high voltage transmission line engineering.

(1) Raw material selection
Select special materials for cross-linked polyethylene wires and cables, such as DJ200, DJ200A, and DJ210 from Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company; LD100BW from Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical Company; The 19E and other raw materials of China Petroleum Daqing Petrochemical Company are suitable for 10kV or 35kV extruded grade polyethylene cross-linked cable materials. You can also refer to the table and adjust the amount of auxiliary materials used in the formula to produce PE wires and cables according to the working environment needs of the wires and cables. Aluminum or copper wires can be used as metal cores for the wires. (2) Equipment conditions
The extruder can be used to extrude ordinary PE materials. The screw diameter of the universal extruder is 945mm or 65mm, and the length to diameter ratio can be around 20:1.
The structure of plastic molding molds for wire core coating can be divided into two types: pressure type molds and tubular type mold structures.
The wrapping wire formed by a pressure type mold is uniformly wrapped by polyethylene melt when the wire core passes through the mold, and the plastic and metal wires are adhered together. This type of wrapping wire is mainly used as an insulated wire. The wrapping line formed by the tubular mold is a plastic tubular wrapping layer extruded from the mold that is concentric with the metal wire core, but the plastic wrapping layer is not in contact with the wire core. The gap between the tubes and the wire core is vacuumed, causing the plastic tubular wrapping layer to shrink onto the wire core. The wires and cables formed by this method usually have a pre coated insulation layer on the wire core, and the tubular plastic layer serves as a protective sheath.

(3) Forming process
① If the moisture content of the cable material is too high (damp), it should be dried in a hot air circulation oven at around 80 ℃ before production.
② Note that the metal wire core before entering the molding mold should be straightened and preheated to a certain temperature to ensure good adhesion and minimal deformation with the molten plastic. The preheating temperature of the metal wire is around 100 ℃.
③ The process temperature control for plasticizing raw materials in the extruder is: 130-150 ℃ in the barrel feeding section, 150-170 ℃ in the plasticizing section, and 160-180 ℃ in the homogenizing section. Forming mold at 175-185 ℃.
The heat treatment conditions in a 40-50m long oven are: heating with a 1.47MPa steam pipe to promote polyethylene cross-linking. The steam heating oven should have a downward tilt angle (about 35 ° angle) to facilitate the discharge of steam condensate.
